Harvest Festival
Last Sunday we attended the annual Harvest Festival in the Mennonite colony of Chihuahua. Over 800 people were in attendance for the morning service, which took place mainly in Low German with some Spanish translation.
Chihuahua is a rather progressive colony, with larger-scale soybean production and hog operations. We were a bit astounded by how "real-town-like" the colony is...complete with a cell phone tower and over $50,000 worth of phone cards sold annually in the colony store!

Feeding of the 800: a rather atypical Mennonite feast of hamburgers, pork 'n beans, nacho chips, and soft-serve ice cream (men and women in separate lines, please).
The services were held in this large newly in-progress building, which will be the site of evangelism meetings next week.

The congregation during the morning service.

Waiting to eat.

MCC Focus Weekend, May 2010
We had the twice-annual MCC Bolivia Focus Weekend a few weeks ago here on the grounds. It included singing, workshops, a speaker on cultural differences/issues, lots of good food, conversing, and so on -- really a good time. The photos below show workshops on crafts,

picante chicken from the altiplano,

and cake baking (Ukrainian honey cake in our apartment, to be exact).

Here Ramont savors a really tasty (and healthy) lunch prepared by an MCC employee and his family.

Here is a classic MCC shot (remniscent of, say, 30 years ago): Tyler, Holly, and Andy discussing whether the project really does build capacity or not.

And finally:
