Harvest Festival

Last Sunday we attended the annual Harvest Festival in the Mennonite colony of Chihuahua. Over 800 people were in attendance for the morning service, which took place mainly in Low German with some Spanish translation.

Chihuahua is a rather progressive colony, with larger-scale soybean production and hog operations. We were a bit astounded by how "real-town-like" the colony is...complete with a cell phone tower and over $50,000 worth of phone cards sold annually in the colony store!

Feeding of the 800: a rather atypical Mennonite feast of hamburgers, pork 'n beans, nacho chips, and soft-serve ice cream (men and women in separate lines, please).

The services were held in this large newly in-progress building, which will be the site of evangelism meetings next week.
