Eating verenike to help others (if only it was that easy)

Yesterday our community held its annual mini MCC Relief Sale to raise funds for Mennonite Central Committee's relief, development, and peace-making work around the world. It's always a fun social event, not to mention a perfect time to stuff oneself with dairy-based foods and buy impractical things at ridiculous prices.

Our two little future-MCCers came out quite well. Let me rephrase that: Jonathan scored his heart's desire, a big toy tractor (thank you, Opa), and Anna got to hold the family sack of tweibach and a pocket flashlight dug out of my shoulder bag. Both were quite content.

This photo doesn't quite do it justice, but the attendance was larger this year than last (our first since moving back). Ramont is on the stage helping announce the items - when not bidding up to $500 for a second toy tractor (for Anna), which he (luckily) didn't win :)

This tractor pretty much makes his life complete.

The auction took place in the afternoon. Prior to that, our church hosted a verenike feast, also as a fund-raiser (for an interesting tidbit about these Ukrainian dumplings, read this.) Here they are being fried.

And here my parents help serve them along with cream gravy (partly Susie's contribution)...

 ...and Mountain Lake sausage!

Here we get to enjoy the scrumptious feast.

More feasting.

And this was before heading to the auction for pie and ice cream.

Altogether a fun day for a good cause.
