Singing with gusto

Last month the Mennonite churches in Mtn. Lake held a fundraiser for MCC's humanitarian aid, peace work, and other development projects in Ukraine. The first part of the fundraiser was a "Russian Mennonite" (i.e. Russian/Ukrainian) meal featuring verenike (cheese dumplings) with cream gravy, sausage, and various types of moos (cold, sweet fruit soup).

The second part of the fundraiser was a concert of musical pieces from a number of area churches. You can see some really nice pictures from the event at this site.

Our church organized a mixed choir, and got to work learning an authentic Russian song, sung by many a Christian church in Ukraine (I made copies of some of the songs I loved while part of a choir there). Let me tell you, we really got into it!  You can judge our efforts for yourself in this video:

And then, because we were enjoying it so much, we added another stylistically fun song. This one is a Sacred Harp selection just right for Easter:

All told, more than $15,000 were raised for Mennonite Central Committee.

Very impressive all around! The singing, the fundraising, the conducting, Ms. Harder Schrock! And, Ramont stands out as the superstar with his contrasting outfit. Intentional, I'm sure. ;)
