A calf is born

As we pulled into the garage Thursday evening after church, we said to each other - as we have almost every day for the last 6 weeks - "maybe Gracie will have her calf tonight."

And on this evening she did! Or rather, was in the process of giving birth. Ramont helped pull the last while, and out came healthy little Gustav. Gracie vigorously licked him off, even while seeming a bit shook up by the whole presence of a new little thing.

A few days later, both mama and baby are doing just fine. Today Ramont tasted the milk for the first time and declared it good. I made the first butter from the copious cream, and Jonathan is just waiting for the yogurt.

So welcome, Gussy! We're glad you're (finally) here.

This week brought some lovely springish weather, so we had supper outside for the first time this year.

The first time of many, I imagine.

We've been in church a lot this week, as is customary for Holy Week.

All of us have enjoyed it, and Anna especially enjoyed the dressing up.

And one last picture of Jonathan from the preschool Spring Tea earlier this week.
